At different points in life, many of us find ourselves feeling stuck. Stress, uncertainty, or major life transitions can make it hard to see a clear way forward, and daily demands can start to feel overwhelming. As Helen Keller once observed, we often focus so much on the door that has closed that we miss the possibility of another one opening—even if it’s only by a crack. As an experienced professional counsellor, I help individuals slow things down, gain clarity, and move forward with support, compassion, and a renewed sense of balance and well-being. With over 30 years of counselling experience in private practice, along with extensive work in the not-for-profit mental health sector, I am deeply committed to offering thoughtful, effective counselling services that support emotional health and personal growth. Whether you are dealing with stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, or personal development concerns, my goal is to help you create meaningful, realistic, and lasting change. My approach to therapy is client-centred, flexible, and grounded in evidence-based counselling techniques. I believe the most important part of effective therapy is a strong counsellor–client relationship built on trust, respect, and genuine connection. I often say, “Finding the right counsellor is like buying a new pair of running shoes—if the fit isn’t right, you’ll still get shin splints.” My role is to help ensure the right fit so you can move forward comfortably and confidently. Clients often describe my counselling style as relaxed, approachable, and easy to talk to. I’ve proudly called Grande Prairie home for many years, where I raised my two children and now enjoy life as a grandparent to six wonderful grandchildren. Community involvement is important to me, and I have remained actively engaged with local organizations, including serving for many years with the EMS Foundation. When I’m not in the counselling office, I recharge by spending time in nature, camping, and connecting with friends and family. You may also meet Hazel, my three-year-old Shih Tzu–Poodle cross and therapy dog-in-training, who enjoys greeting clients and helping create a calm, welcoming counselling environment. If you’re looking for professional counselling services in Grande Prairie and want to see if we’re the right fit, I invite you to reach out. 📞 Call or email to connect, or book your counselling session online today at robsmithcounselling@janeapp.com.
